Bowtown never had a history written by anyone, but ask any one from chai or paan shops to railway station or the Masjid near old "once upon a time" library building to famous Mandir down the stream, you will get a lot about history of bowtown and its Royal family. Though the histry was never written on papers, never came in a form of books, but it travelled through the generations.
History of Bowton starts with Mahabharata, as they say. While goinng towards "Swarg", Arjun, most skilled Pandava and close friend of Lord Krishna left his bow, the Gandiva here. Gandiva was famous bow and Janmejay, the great grand son of Arjun felt its his right to get the bow again to be breave like Arjun.
He travelled a lot from Hastinapur to Himalaya where Gandiva was left. Janmejay tried to get the bow but it started to increase in size and soon it was miles long. HIs priests told him that Gandiva needs to be worshiped and requested to come with the king. Janmejay performed a huge offering at lower end of Gandiva and requested it to come with him. After months, they heard a voice from heavens, it was of Lord Shiva. He told Janmejay that Gandiva was to be used by Arjun himself and he should not try to remove it from its place.
Disappointed Janmejay asked his solders to build a long cart to carry the bow to Hastinapur but as soon as they started to make cart , Gandiva started disappearing. Janmejaya felt his fault and prayed to be forgiven but it disappeared and a stream from hills washed away the remains and formed a river.
Janmejay instaled a Shiv-linga where he worshiped and returned back to Hastinapur. The stream hence started being called as Gandiva river, as it made the shape of a bow there. The Shiv-linga became famous as "Dhanusheshwar Mahadeva", which later eased to dhanusha.
